MUFFINS

Main information about MUFFINS project funded by the French national research agency (ANR)

PROJECT TITLE: MUFFINS - MUltiscale Flood Forecasting with INnovating Solutions

SHORT SUMMARY: MUFFINS is a research project that aims to develop new accurate and reliable flood forecasting models, enabling information exchange and multi-source data integration, and able to better anticipate flood-inundation events at different spatial and temporal scales, from local sudden runoff and flash floods on small ungauged rivers to fluvial floods. The approaches developed are based on hydrological-hydraulic couplings as well as data assimilation and machine learning techniques.  Case studies located in the French Mediterranean region, with recent flood events and rich datasets are investigated, in collaboration with a group of operational end users to pertinently specify the design of the forecasting chains and of their evaluation procedures.
