Impact and benefits

Expected impact and benefits of the project

The benefits of the project will pertain, in relation with the objectives defined, to improved handling of the issue of multi-scale integrated forecasting of flood risk and to the integration of multi-source information for better calibration and evaluation of the methods.

Operational demonstrators of hydrological-hydraulic flood forecasting methods affordable in real-time but also refined risk-cost modeling and runoff sensitivity maps are expected. In relation with the partners and end-users mobilized in the project, the main expected societal and economic benefits should be:

  • New methodologies and tools for the next generation of spatially distributed flood forecasting methods with multi-sourced data integration.
  • Operational demonstrators of hydrological-hydraulic flood forecasting methods and high quality datasets affordable in real time and transferable to end users at national, regional and local scales.
  • Upgrade of the national ’Vigicrues Flash’ operational flood forecasting chain for ungauged catchments, in the perspective of the future infra-departmental flood vigilance.
  • Refined risk-cost modeling and improved capability of  insurance or reinsurance (CCR) companies to take effective action after each event. This last significant benefit of the project for private companies justifies its inclusion in the “PRCE” funding instrument.
